Cancer. Used to help treat recurrent, inoperable, or metastatic endometrial or breast cancer. Used as an adjunct to surgery or radiation therapy. Fatigue. Used for anorexia, fatigue, or weight loss in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and to stimulate appetite and weight gain in people with malnutrition due to cancer. Other. Megestrol Acetate is used alone or in combination with estrogen for controlling ovulation in birth control. It may also be used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, endometriosis, and abnormal growths of the lining of the uterus.
